"Being naked behind the decks and mixer took it a step further and challenged me to expose everything about myself."
As a DJ, I create the mood in whatever environment I am playing in. I have the unique opportunity to take a group of people and let them experience all of my thoughts, feelings, and emotions through music. The feeling I get when I create new blends and mixes of songs that no one has ever heard before is unreal; I get that same giddiness I experienced building with Lego as a child.
Being naked behind the decks and mixer took it a step further and challenged me to expose everything about myself. Things I love about my body and things I want to fix would be out there for the public to see. Upon taking this photo shoot on, I immediately had doubts and thoughts of, “Hmmm, maybe I should delay this and work my abs out and eat well for the next two weeks.” Ultimately, I decided not to postpone it and to take it head-on, and I’m glad I did.
My experience of being photographed naked was liberating to say the least. It’s a different experience being nude in the presence of another without sex involved. The music started flowing naturally and I was in my zone, dancing my face off and head bobbing to the beat. All of my anxiety and insecurities were non-existent, shed alongside my jeans and t-shirt.
Before this experience, I exercised because something with me needed improvement; which was extremely disempowering. Now, I choose to live a healthy lifestyle because I love and honour my body. I got that my body is something to embrace instead of something to change. Maybe I should be nude more often?
